Baseball is set to return July 24th! Here is your Preview for the AL East.
New York Yankees
2019 record 103-59
Won AL East lost in ALCS
The Yankees had a very successful 2019 season. They won the AL East and had the second seed in the AL Playoffs. IN the playoffs the swept the Twins in the ALDS. Then they faced the Houston Astros in the ALCS they lost to the Astros 7 games. In the Offseason the Yankees resigned RHP Luis Cessna RHP Chad Green RHP Jonathan Holder OF Aaron judge RHP Tommy Kahnie, LHP Jordan Montgomery LHP James Paxton Gary Sanchez and 3b Gio Urschel. They also resigned Brett Gardner and traded 3b James Nelson to the Miami Marlins for Left-Handed Pitcher Stephen Tarpley and Cash consideration. Last year through 60 game the Yankees went 38-22
I think the Yankees will continue to dominate in 2020. They resigned a lot of their stars including Aaron Judge. They will get John Carlo Stanton back who missed a majority of last season with a Shoulder and a Knee injury. I think with the 60-game season the Yankees could be one of the top team in the AL if they stay healthy.
Tampa Bay Rays
2019 Record 96-66
Lost in ALDS
The Rays had a good 2019 they made the playoffs for the first time since 2013. In the playoffs they beat the Oakland Athletics in the wild card round. In the ALDS they faced the Houston Astros. They would lose that series in 5 games.
In the offseason they traded Peyton Battenfield and OF Cal Stevenson from the Houston Astros for RHP Austin Pruit. They also resigned Oliver Drake, Tyler Glasgow, Hunter Renfroe and Daniel Robertson to one-year contract.
I think the Rays can compete for the Division this year. I was really impressed with how they played in that ALDS series against the Astros.
Boston Red Sox
2019 record 84-78
Third in AL East
The Red sox finished third in the AL East and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015. In the Offseason the Red sox resigned their star outfielders Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. They also signed RHPs Matt Barnes, Heath Hembree, and Brandon Workman all to one-year contracts.
This year should be interesting for the Red Sox with the new management and new additions. I think they will compete for a wild card spot in the American League.
Toronto Blue Jays
2019 record 67-95
Fourth in the AL East
The Blue Jays did not have a good 2019 year they missed the playoffs for third year in a row. In the offseason they resigned C Patrick Cartwell, RHP Ryan Dull and OF Zach Britton.
I think the Blue Jays will continue the rebuild and increase their win total. I don’t think they will compete, but I think they will improve this season even if in the short season.
2019 record 54-108
Last in the AL East
The Orioles did not have a good 2019 they finished in the Basement of the American League with a record of 54-108. In the offseason the Orioles acquired former Cubs pitcher Travis lakin off of waivers.
I think the Orioles will continue their rebuild. Just like my prediction for the Blue Jays I think the Orioles will improve this year.
