St.Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks has opted out of the 2020 MLB Season. According to MLB Rumors.com Hicks cited that he has type 1 Diabetes and would be at an increased risk. Hicks is the 13th Major League player to out of the 2020 season.
When asked about Hicks opting out of the season Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozliak Said “We respect and understand Jordan’s decision to opt out this season, We wish him well as he continues his recovery from elbow surgery, and we look forward to seeing Jordan back on the mound for the 2021 season.”
Even though Hicks was recovering from Tommy John Surgery and would have had to miss some of the 60 game seasons, either way, this is still a big loss as Hick played a big role in the Cardnals bullpen last season with 31 strikeouts and 14 saves in a season that was shortened due to injury.
With this decision Hicks becomes the 13th Major League player to opt of out the 2020 season. This number is expected to increase as we get closer to opening day on July 24th.
